What do you mean? Cross-hatching?
It's hard to shade with gel ink. I use cross hatching to shade, and I agree totally with you, it gives a rough texture. That's why I decided recently to expand my drawings from 8 1/2 X 11 inches to 3 feet by 4 1/2 feet, I figure if I up the drawing size and use the same tecnique, it will look smoother and more defined. What do you think?
might be called cross-hatching, wouldn't know though, since my english vocab is limited
thats one way to solve the problem
Although I find it way better, to just not do it in the first place
really, in my experience it has never actually looked good, sometimes it doesn't look bad, but if your not drawing a fence or something like that, I think its better to keep the angle between the lines at about.. hm.. 0-45 degrees
the other thing I do, when I do a drawing with ink or pen, is that I just do the shading with soft pencil or something else, where the lines can't really be seen and that tends to take care of the problem to
hope its any help to you
I would just like to say that I've noticed you comment alot on DA. You give very detailed descriptions of what you like and what the strengths/weaknesses of the piece is. Thank you so much for taking time to comment on my artwork, and not just say "It's cool" or "I like it". Thanks!

Thank you!
the only thing I might change is, the use of "cross-shading" it gives objects a very rough texture.
